Breast augmentation with implants
Breast augmentation with round implants via inframammary approach in dual plane 245 CC
Breast prostheses are implants used in plastic surgery to increase breast volume or reconstruct the breast. They undergo very strict controls to ensure a safe surgical procedure. Available in various shapes (such as round implants) and all sizes, these implants cater to diverse needs and preferences.
There are numerous shapes and sizes of breast implants available. A common question that arises is whether to choose a round or anatomical breast implant.
Round breast implants are the most commonly used type of implants. They have a symmetrical shape and come in various sizes, differing in width and projection.
There are high-profile round breast implants (high projection), moderate-profile round breast implants (moderate projection), and low-profile round breast implants (low projection).
These implants give the breast a rounded, apple-like shape, providing a fuller cleavage compared to anatomical breast implants.
There are different materials used for breast implant coverings:
Silicone gel-filled breast implants provide a more natural feel and minimize the risk of rippling. (Cost of silicone breast implants)
Saline-filled round breast implants are rarely used. They tend to deflate quickly and do not feel as natural to the touch. Saline breast implants are the least expensive option on the market.
Polyurethane-covered round breast implants are filled with silicone gel. The polyurethane coating helps minimize the risk of implant rotation and reduces the likelihood of capsular contracture. Polyurethane breast implants are the most expensive option available.
The cost of a breast implant varies depending on its shape (round or anatomical) and material.
The lifespan of a breast implant varies based on the type of implant, its placement, and its manufacturing quality. There is no mandatory requirement to replace breast implants every 10 years. Implant removal and replacement are only necessary if problems arise.
While theoretically, it is not possible to keep a breast implant for life, it can be replaced after 5, 10, 15, or 20 years, depending on its condition.
During your consultation with your plastic surgeon, external breast implant trials will help determine the ideal implant to match your preferences. The surgeon will guide you in making the best choice.
